No two pieces are ever the same. Each mug, vase, crock or planter carries small marks of its making. Textures and imperfections reflect both the clay's history and my own. My work is about reclamation, making the nest of what's around, finding perfection in what's imperfect and creatine new from once was unused potential.

Each piece is made with Reclaimed or recycled clay, showcasing my commitment to sustainability. By choosing Red Feather's pottery, you not only support local craftsmanship but also bring a touch of artistry into your home.  Every item is meant to be used and loved, whether it's to hold flowers, coffee or simply a place in your daily rituals. I hope you'll find something here that feels useful and lasting.

WELCOME

I'm Julie McCarty, the maker behind Red Feather pottery. I hand build my pieces from reclaimed clay, scraps, trimmings and leftover glazes recycled and worked into functional pottery. My work is shaped by the places I've called home, especially Wyoming that lives deepest in me. Now working out of Western Pennsylvania, I create pottery that reflects resilience, story and the beauty of imperfect beginnings.

"Big Horn"

feather2_edited.png

The Big Horn Series is shaped by my time in northern Wyoming, where the Bighorn Moutains were our backyard. I grew up fishing cold creeks, wantering forest trails, and exploring roads that brought me to places I thought I could see so far I could view the curve of the Earth.

Some pieces also carry the memory of the Elk Fire of September 2024. I had to watch from Pennsylvania, but I had just been right there the week before with my mother for her 85-birthday lunch. Lightning struck and fuled by shifting winds and impossible terrain, the fire burned 98,000 acres. I cried into my clay and prayed for rain in the West. In the kiln, certain glazes reacted like flames on the ridges and flashed copper and ember tones against the trees. But forests return to greens and blues over time, and these pieces honor both the burn and the renewal that follows.

What do you mean, "Reclaimed?"

"Reclaim" is recycled clay that has been gathered, rehydrated, and reused instead of being thrown away. Red Feather pottery is made from 100% recycled clay. This sustainable process reduces waste and gives each piece a unique character.

These are even more gorgeous in person. I love the textures and shapes. Thank you so much for sharing your work. You have always been an amazing artist I admired, even back in 7th grade.   You should hold them in person. Both sides have the art design and texture, even the sides are designed..

״There's something deeply grounding about Julie's work. I purchased a mug from the Big Horn collection, and every time I hold it, I feel that quiet strength and peace she must've found in the Wyoming mountains. The craftsman is beautiful—sturdy, yet delicate. It's more than a mug. It's a piece of her story that's now a part of mine.״
